The authors first and most generally, look at demography from a Marxist point of view, and they study how the demographic process contributes to the reproduction of the labour force. Second, they analyze how the labour force is reproduced in various social formations; different ways of organizing labour give birth to different demographic responses. Third, they look at some of the changes that occur when capitalism expands into "peripheral" regions of the world economy, and how these changes affect the demographic process in a situation of underdevelopment. |
